A quick review of the Imitation Crab Expansion for You've Got Crabs: what it adds, how it changes gameplay, and whether the chaos is worth the low price.
Quick answer
If you already own You've Got Crabs and enjoy silly, physical party games, the Imitation Crab Expansion is a cheap way to add chaos and laughs—but it's not for serious players.
What the Imitation Crab Expansion adds
The expansion adds a single Imitation Crab Card that acts as a wild card, making it easier to get four of a kind. The twist: any player holding the card must also wear two crab claws on their hands, making it nearly impossible to hold their cards. This turns a simple matching game into a hilarious physical challenge.
Who will enjoy it most
This expansion is best for groups that value laughter over strategy. If your game nights are more about fun and embarrassment than tight competition, the crab claws will be a hit. On the other hand, if you prefer clean, strategic play, the physical hindrance may frustrate you.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the Imitation Crab Expansion a standalone game?
- No. You must own a copy of You've Got Crabs to use this expansion. It only adds one card and two crab claws. Make sure you have the base game first.
- How does the Imitation Crab Card work?
- The card is a wild card that counts as any crab type, making it easier to collect four of a kind. However, the player holding it must wear the crab claws on their hands, making it very difficult to hold cards. The advantage of a wild card is balanced by the physical handicap.
- Is the expansion worth the price?
- At around $5.27 (compared to a $7.99 list price), it's a low-cost way to add a new, silly element to the base game. If your group enjoys physical comedy, it's a good value. Only buy if you want more laughter over strategy.
